bubble architects have completed 8 new residential units in a varied mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms on New Cross Road, London. The existing building had empty commercial units at ground floor level with delapidated low ceiling basement storage below. By raising the level of the ground floor and incorporating high level windows into the base of the new shopfront design, this enabled us to create 4 new apartments at basement level along with 4 apartments at ground level. The new shopfront therefore includes windows to both the ground and basement level apartments whilst retaining the character of the High Street shop frontage as required by Lewisham Council. The raised ground floor and low level railings to the front enable privacy to be retained for the residents. All apartments have gardens or terraces to the rear and are used primarily for student accommodation for Goldsmith college nearby.
